If you love Pittsburgh and you love food (who am I kidding, who doesn’t?!) then I have an event made for you! Pittsburgh Restaurant Week is an event that happens twice a year, August and December, to celebrate Pittsburgh dining and offer special menus to the community! This years event is happening August 11th-17th and you can browse this seasons restaurants and menus HERE. Fine dining to casual, there is really something for everyone to try. One week from today on August 7th, PRW is hosting an official restaurant week Kick-off Party at the National Aviary! Guests will attend a cocktail style party filled with taste previews of menus for the coming week. You also get admission to all things aviary for the night AND a real-life penguin encounter!!! If that didn’t sell ya, I don’t know what could.

Also tune in this Friday, August 1st, to WPXI Channel 12 around 12:45 p.m. to see yours truly talk Pittsburgh Restaurant Week with the director himself for a “Take Five” segment! Thank you to Brian and WPXI for being so supportive and making it an unforgettable experience for me at the station!

That’s me holding an Emmy Award!!!!

Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium!

IMG_7805Lions and Tigers and Bears, OH MY! No matter how old you are, 5 months old to 50 years old, the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium is loads of fun to spend the day! They have tons of outdoor exhibits and right now they are featuring baby cheetahs and a baby gorilla!! Hands down one of the cutest things I have ever seen in my life. The zoo has their share of outdoor safari animals as well as birds, fish, farms animals, polar bears and so much more. If you’re looking for a new and different night out, the zoo also hosts an annual Zoo Brew – Oktoberfest! The past Zoo Brew in May sold out pretty quickly so get your tickets HERE starting July 31st. You can also bring the kids trick-or-treating at the Zoo Boo! I used to go to the Zoo Boo every year and loved every minute of it! I’m also always a fan of a new 5k run, the ZooZila 5k Run/Walk takes place on November 1st.

Andy Warhol

I bet you didn’t know one of the worlds most popular artists, Andy Warhol, is from right here in the city of Pittsburgh, did ya?! Well it is true and we are darn proud of it! The Andy Warhol features Warhols art, film and videos, as well as archives. The featured exhibit right now is Halston and Warhol: Silver and Suede! A great way to get a bargain for college students is to go on ‘Good Fridays‘. Every Friday from 5-10 pm the museum stays open late with half price museum admission and a cash bar! It’s the perfect way to get a more intimate look at all the art and make an evening out of it. The Warhol is located right near NorthShore hots spots McFaddens, the Beer Market, and BZ’s Bar and Grill.

warholAlthough you can’t take pictures in the museum, how cool is it the museum has the exact bench below this photo of Warhol to take recreation pictures?! Clearly in this picture I was trying (keyword: trying) to be extra serious but I was bursting with excitement when I realized our sunglasses were extremely similar! One of my favorite Warhol quotes is “Don’t pay attention to what they write about you, just measure it in inches.” He was an artist that didn’t care what people were saying about him and his work, as long as they were saying something, he was winning.

On Saturday night I also caught a movie that just came out, Begin Again. The story, the cast, the soundtrack….all of it phenomenal. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, especially music lovers! Adam Levine sings a beautiful ballad “Lost Stars” that I’ve had on repeat. Comment below if you see it and tell me what you think!

There also was a lot of yoga happening this weekend. I’m still a beginner (really amateur at best) but I’m learning!

Photo Diary: Rivers, Mario’s, Warped Tour!

Outfit Details: Shirt, American Eagle; Maxi Skirt, Old Navy; Necklace, Forever21

This weekend was a celebration! On Saturday I had one of my first experiences in ShadySide at Spoon for Megan’s birthday dinner! (They participate in Pittsburgh Restaurant Week!!) After, we paraded the birthday girl around Walnut St. I’m a fan of Mario’s in the SouthSide and was pleasantly surprised to find their is another location on Walnut. I was secretly hoping to run into one of my favorite bloggers SummerWind, who is also from the Pittsburgh area, after I saw her giving Mario’s the title of best “Post-Grad Bar.”

casinoOutfit Details: Dress, TJ Maxx; Sandals, Old Navy; Sweater, PacSun; Necklace and Ring, Forever21

We ended the celebration at the Rivers Casino on Sunday morning. They have a Grand View Buffet that needs to be seen to believe! So. Much. Food. Their Sunday Champagne Brunch from 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. includes bottomless Mimosas and Bloody-Mary’s. It’s very popular with longer lines, go as early as you can!

Vans Warped Tour was on Tuesday and it was INCREDIBLE. So many bands, so little time. We went from stage, to stage, to stage getting to see just about every band I wanted to squeeze in for the day! My favorites tore up the stage and I saw a couple bands for the first time. My highlights were definitely seeing Yellowcard’s set (they’re much more than their popular song ‘Ocean Avenue’!!), meeting and hearing This Wild Life, and crowd-surfing during The Story So Far‘s set. Spending the day with two of my best friends, surrounded by hundreds of people that just LOVE music is a feeling that can’t be beat.  I’m already feeling post-concert depression and can’t wait for next years Best Day Ever!!!

Best Day of the Year: Warped Tour Check List!

Who is ready to rock out at this years Vans Warped Tour?! I can not wait to hear some of my favorite bands (Mayday Parade) as well as a bunch of new ones (especially This Wild Life!!!!!!). For those of you who are newcomers, Warped Tour is music festival that road trips across America performing one day in each city for the whole summer, June-August. Fans are exposed to 50+ in one day, in one venue. Whether you’re looking to catch your favorite band or discover new talent, Warped Tour is a band lovers dream. We will be rocking out in Burgettstown, PA, about 45 minutes outside of Pittsburgh from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. As a veteran experiencing bad outfit choices, dehydration and un-forgiving sunburn first-hand, I have put together a survival kit to help make your Warped Tour experience the best it can be! There’s a reason it’s known as the “Best day of the year!

Canned-goods – Tired of waiting in long lines? Bring 3 canned goods to donate to the Feed Our Children NOW tent, you can earn a “skip the line” wristband and gain first access to the venue!

Water Bottle – Summer temperatures are HOT. Spending all day in the sun listening to music can make a person forget about taking care of their body! Find the water stations around the venue to fill up a water bottle with free H20. The crew works hard to keep you hydrated and going all day long! Make sure to EAT as well.

Ticket – Tickets give you entry into the show! Luckily if a ticket is forgotten at First Niagara Pavillion a confirmation number from your e-mail will also work. Gain this access through the customer service office.

Camera/Sharpie – You will get to see so many bands in such a short amount of time, no one will believe you had that AWESOME of an experience unless you show them! Use your camera to remember memories with your friends, meeting your favorite artists, and take videos of your favorite song. Don’t forget a sharpie for autographs!

Sunglasses/Sunscreen/Chapstick – Protecting your skin is extremely important! I personally forgot the sunscreen my first year and ended up looking like a tomato by 5 o’clock. Bring a spray bottle sunscreen for  quick application in between sets! Wear sunglasses to keep from squinting and getting the best view possible of each set. No one likes sunburned/chapped lips, keep the chapstick handy as well!

Cash – Want to give support to a band? Buy some merchandise from their tent! Artists’ put their heart and souls into their career to come out on tour for fans. Buying a new CD or t-shirt can help keep them going!

Shoes/Tank Top/Bandana – Comfortable clothes are KEY! You’re going to be walking, standing, dancing, (heck maybe even moshing) for close to 10 hours. Keep it cool, loose, and a little edgy.

Fannypack – Everything listed above needs a place! The one pictured below was purchased from Forever21, similar can be found HERE!

Keepin’ Your Love Locked Down

photo3Who doesn’t want to pretend they’re being swept off to Paris for a day? Well now it’s possible to feel a little bit of Paris’ magic right here in the Burgh! The ever popular ‘Love-lock Bridge’ in Paris is exactly as it sounds. It’s a bridge, covered in hand locks, put on by couples in love. All different colors, all different sizes and all different stories, representing two people with a connection bigger than themselves. This trend has crossed over to the ‘Schenley Bridge’ in Oakland. I’ve heard about this bridge for months and I finally got to hunt it down this week. I may not be a young girl hopelessly in love with another person, but I am a young girl in love with life. Looking at all the special engravings on every lock gave me butterflies that one day i’ll feel that way about someone, maybe return to the bridge to put my very own lock on the fence!

I hope no matter where you are in life, you’re in it with love. Love for yourself, love for your family & friends and love for your dreams. If you’re looking for something ‘so cheesy make my heart explode romantic’, check out this story about a couple that got engaged at the real Love-Lock Bridge in Paris!

P.S. It’s also my best friends 21st birthday this weekend (I might be more excited than she is for the celebrations hehe) and I made her this adorable mini alcohol tree I found on Pinterest! Cheers to the weekend!

Baby You’re a Firework!

We are on the eve of a 3-day holiday weekend! Even though today is Thursday, it’s basically Friday! I hope everyone is digging the red, white and blue out of the back of their closets and getting ready to cheers to the USA (even if we lost the World Cup on Tuesday which in that case it is still TOO SOON!!) Here are five fun things going on in the Burgh this weekend to celebrate #MERICA!!

1. Cookout – Whether you want to fire up the grill at your house or head down to the North Shore for this years Regatta, good food is a MUST. Tons of food stands featuring BBQ, fresh lemonade, and ice cream will be set up along the water this weekend.  There are also a ton of shows happening from boat racing, BMX bike riding and the ever popular sand sculpting (my personal favorite!) It will be happening all day long July 3rd & 4th.

2. Fireworks – The best part of the 4th of July (after endless hot-dogs and pasta salad) are the fireworks! Downtown Pittsburgh puts on a firework show every year that brings thousands of people. The show starts at 9:35 and I recommend getting a spot pretty early because it fills up FAST. One year I had to climb the Roberto Clemente bridge just to get a good spot. If you’re not one for big crowds, you can opt to catch the show right at home on your TV!

3. Swimming – The wave pool is a great place to camp out for a day of sun and relaxation. I just recently went to Settler’s Cabin wave pool and had a blast! Renting a good inter-tube  is the key to closing your eyes and pretending you’re at the ocean. Pack a cooler, don’t forget the sunscreen and bring some tunes!

4. Concert – Free show at Heinz Field headlining Jarrod Liemann, you can find out more information HERE!!

5. Baseball Game – The Pittsburgh Pirates are doing AWESOME this season! We’re playing the Phillies everyday this weekend, what’s more american than a baseball game?!

 Enjoy the holiday weekend, U-S-A!
