Welcome Back!

Happy Back to School Week Bloggers!! If you aren’t going back to school yourself, I’m sure someone you know or a family member is and you’ll notice students are showing up EVERYWHERE! I took the last week off of blogging to enjoy my last week of summer with family and friends (although I still religiously read my daily blogs I couldn’t cut all ties!!) I’m taking some time to set into my classes, new internship and my job but I’ve got some really great ideas for posts to come! I still took some pictures during my time off and made some exciting changes! Above, I moved into an apartment with 2 of my best friends!

And wore some really cool glow glasses to the ElectroDash 5k!

And went to the Pirates game with two of my summer co-workers! On Saturday I’m going to see Gavin Degraw at PNC Park and I couldn’t be more excited!! Tickets for the game and post-concert HERE!

And got my nose pierced at SouthSide Tattoo! (notice the lollipop they gave me because I was scared haha!)

And convinced Megan to do the same!

And wore my first pair of overalls since the 4th grade.

Outfit details: Shirt, Forever21; Over-alls, Wet Seal; Shoes, Converse; Flanel, Hollister CO.

And learned a new yoga pose!! They have extended Yoga in the Square through September 14th. If you haven’t gone, you still have a chance!

Enjoy the week (or look forward to the weekend) to come!!

Dancing All Night to the Best Song Ever!

Next week at this time it will be the first Monday of my senior year of college……WOW! Time really has flown by. This past weekend was officially the last weekend of summer and what other way was there for me to spend it then with the one and only One Direction?! (Listen to: Diana, Midnight Memories, Happily, Little White Lies, Better Than Words) That’s right, I packed up my bags and road-tripped to Detroit, Michigan for my last concert before school starts. I guess we’ll forgive Harry Styles this time for leaving Pittsburgh off the list of tour dates, but just this once! I also got to spend time with my sister and brother in-law which makes the trip that much sweeter.

One Direction is currently on the Where We Are tour across North America! Their latest album, Midnight Memories, is FANTASTIC! It will make you want to dance, if not, YOU’RE LYING TO YOURSELF! The tour starts off with a 10 song set by 5 Seconds Of Summer (Listen to: You Look So Perfect, Amnesia) and they’ll be going on their own headlining tour next year, coming to First Niagara Pavilion on August 23rd!! Tickets are already available HERE!

Next up was One Direction and the screams (including me oops) were out of control! Get a group of cute boys that can sing, have accents, awkward dance moves and you’ve got every 14 year old girl wrapped around your finger. I sang, I danced, I embarrassed my sister and had too much fun. The setlist was 23 songs long of perfection, the pyro was loud and the confetti was everywhere. 1D knows how to throw a party if you ask me and all 65,000 bright eyed girls in the audience as well.

As a lot of you may know, Detroit is home to the movie 8 mile! Any time we drive in Detroit, I try to spot out scenes from the movie. For the night of the show we parked in a parking garage formerly known as the Michigan Theater. It can be found in 8 mile as the set of a free-style rap scene featuring Eminem! It was really cool to see all the architecture up close and know we were standing in a monumental place!!

I hope all of you moving back to school this coming weekend have the greatest last week of summer and sunshine, I will try my best to enjoy despite my mile long to-do list!

Bicycle Heaven and Weekend Round-Up!

It may be a dreary Monday in the Burgh but I’m still smiling ear to ear from the weekend; perfect weather, music, celebrity sightings and bike riding!  When I’m riding my bike on the river trails there are constant signs talking about a museum called Bicycle Heaven. Being the bike riding fan I am I finally went to take a peek insides and see what it was all about and it was SO COOL. Sure it seems kind of nerdy but I’m kind of okay with that! So many old-fashioned banana boat seats and cool designs you don’t see on mountain bikes we all ride these days.

Today is also the first day of Pittsburgh Restaurant Week!! Be sure to check out the website to browse the menus and get a delicious meal for a deal!! The Kickoff Party was a huge success and I got to dance with a penguin!!

On Friday I went to the One Republic concert with my friend Angela and had a blast! Their set design and talent is unmeasurable, not to mention catching up with a friend before school starts (which is in two weeks agh!!!!!). If you like that kind of sound, Kings of Leon (listen to: Use Somebody) will be coming to First Niagara Pavillion on August 29th, you can still find tickets here!

One Republic

I wish I could have shared this last experience I had with all of you but it was a spur of the moment, last minute decision! I went to The Mall at Robinson to meet Keegan Allen who plays Toby on the show Pretty Little Liars!! He is on a mall tour promoting a photography book he is coming out with. Tons of screaming girls and long lines but worth the wait, he is so cute!! Next weekend Bridgit Mendler is coming to Tanger Outlets August 15th for a free concert, no tickets required. Hunter Hayes will also be in the area at the Crawford County Fair this weekend August 16th, tickets and more information here!!

We were really only suppose to get an autograph, but I really felt a #Selfie was appropriate hahaha!

May the Odds Be Ever in Your City

10509629_10152277285897473_8728657499388351838_nThis past Tuesday was the un-official Fall Tour Announcement Day a.k.a the best day of a young fangirls life. As summer is winding down, artists and bands are working out combinations of openers and headliners that we can only dream of coming to our city! Most tours announced so far were in my favor but unfortunately not all (DARN YOU YELLOWCARD). I luckily have two more shows, One Republic and One Direction, before I close the book on this summers concert series. It’s been a good ride but I’m already looking forward to a few shows in the fall! Check out my favorite show picks for Pittsburgh so far below, links to tickets in location!!

What shows are you looking forward to this fall?!

5 tips for your first 5k!

Starting something new can be scary, plain and simple. Although going out of my comfort zone gives me the jitters, there is a big part of me that is extremely excited, or I wouldn’t have decided to take a chance in the first place! That’s exactly how I felt when I signed up for my very first 5k. I was a casual runner, but knew I had to make a real plan if I was going be able to cross that finish line. It took me a little longer than I thought to find my nitch but I eventually found it and have become a much stronger and confident runner. Anyone can become the runner they want to be, here’s 5 steps how to be the superstar you were meant to be!

IMG_80981. Steel City Road Runners Club – This club is set-up to help beginner runners train for their first 5k race! It is directly affiliated with the well-known Dick’s Pittsburgh Marathon. Each participant can take advantage of a 5 month membership, weekly training runs around the city, coaching attention, workout logs, mentors and most importantly individualized training programs to have you running your first 5k in 8 weeks! Not to mention you get to meet an awesome group of people working towards similar goals (alright you also get the snazzy t-shirt pictured above). If you have no idea where to start and would really like some guidance, I don’t know why you haven’t signed up yet, It’s only $25 per membership! Check them out on Facebook HERE.

2. Good tunes – An important part of running long distance is keeping a consistent pace. I find it is easiest to do when I’m running to the beat in a song. I like running to really upbeat music, some people would describe it as EDM sound. Music can be a large motivator that will get you up that steep hill! I recommend making your own playlist with your favorite tunes on Spotify or playing a station on Pandora (Cash Cash and Icona Pop are my personal favorites)!

3. Day of – Most races start very early in the morning at a time I would usually be still in my bed sleeping! Going to sleep early ensures you will wake up on ON TIME (even if that means setting multiple alarms)!! Getting to the race an hour before it starts will give you time to properly stretch out your muscles, find your mark, run to the port-a-potty’s, and calm your nerves!! It’s okay to be nervous! Try to remember the race is about YOU, not where you fall in comparison to others.

4. Proper attire – A very important part of any event is what the heck you are going to wear!? Try to stay from clothing that is cotton, it takes longer to dry and chances are you’ll be sweating. I like to run in clothing known as “Dri-Fit”. It drys quick and gives you room to breathe, not to mention really comfortable. The right tennis shoes can make or break your race. Be sure to wear a sturdy pair with support and cushion. Taking care of your body plays a part in your performance! if the race you’re running has a theme, don’t be afraid to go all out!!

5. Stay Hydrated – Water really isn’t my favorite to drink but when it comes to running I can’t get enough! I used to drink sports drinks like Gatorade while running and I found out really quick that wasn’t helping and I was still thirsty. Drink it before you go to sleep, when you wake up, before you start, during, and after!

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens!

I was waiting for the perfect time to share Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and that time is NOW! My mom is a very big fan of all things floral, so this past weekend we went and explored their Summer Flower Show. All of the sites are very extraordinary and beautiful! My favorite part was seeing the outside landscapes, particularly the rooftop garden that gave me extreme flashbacks to a well-known scene in High School Musical 3 (wondering where my Troy Bolton was at?!). They do offer student discounts but this coming Monday, August 4th, admission is FREE !! The gardens are a great place to browse and relax, something we all need to do more of these days. Bring a friend, the family or even a date to share the day with!
